Robert Lawrence "Bob" CUNNINGHAM Obituary
Nov 15, 1962 - Jul 7, 2026
Robert "Bob" Lawrence Cunningham, 63, passed away on July 7th 2026, at his home in Deer Park, WA. He was born on November 15th, 1962, in Spokane, WA, to Alice and Gary Cunningham. Bob and his four siblings, Julie Nelson, Debbie Potts, Scott Cunningham, and Lorri Cunningham, had an adventurous childhood at their home near Dragoon Creek. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and floating the river. When Bob's family moved to the Five-Mile area in his teenage years, he became more involved in Cunningham Sand and Gravel, owned and operated by his father.
Bob graduated from Mead High School, class of 1981. He was well known for his strong work ethic, and his constant desire to try new things took him all over the country. He worked for CXT, climbed and serviced cell towers, and constructed the beginnings of Tennessee Coffee Company. He tried his hand at long haul truck driving, and even completed two years of nursing school before changing course. He made his most notable accomplishments as an independent contractor under Cunningham Construction LLC, through which he built and owned residential real estate throughout the Spokane area.
In 1985, Bob married Shelley Markham (now Stevens), with whom he had four daughters. He built their home in Chattaroy, WA. Bob found community and built lifelong friendships while attending Valley Assembly of God, First Assembly, Calvary Chapel, and Chattaroy Community Church over the years. Bob and Shelley homeschooled their daughters, participating in different homeschool Co-Ops and 4-H groups. He enjoyed family time by riding four-wheelers, snow-mobiling, raising farm animals, and camping at Priest Lake.
After Bob and Shelley separated in 2016, he went on to build a home in Deer Park, WA, and remodeled a house in Lake Havasu, AZ, where he resided in the winter months.
In 2023, Robert married Roxanna Rowse (now Cunningham). Together, they enjoyed their retirement with many home projects and family gatherings.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Jana Urann (Tom Urann), Jaelynn Pierce (Travis Pierce), Rylee Lajiness (Lukas Lajiness), and Mackenzie Cunningham; and his 10 grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Cunningham; his father, Gary Cunningham; and brother-in-law, Jim Potts.
Bob was an exceptional father, a generous friend, and conducted business with integrity. He will always be remembered for his upbeat attitude and light-hearted sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Calvary Spokane on August 22nd, at 10am. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/spokesman/name/robert-lawrence-bob-cunningham-obituary?id=62032845
