Lori Poad

POAD, Lorianne
July 9th, 1963 - January 18th, 2007
Lori passed away in her home in the presence of her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Lori was born in Butte, Montana, moved to Spokane at age 4 and spent her school years in the same house in North Spokane. She graduated from Mead High School in 1981 and from Eastern Washington University with a teaching degree in 1986. She later earned a Master's degree in Education from City University, Seattle, WA. She spent a couple of years teaching in Republic, Washington and then moved to Bellingham, Washington where she lived the remainder of her life. In addition to teaching 8th grade math, she was involved with her kids in Math Olympiad and also taught some college classes. Lori was preceded in death by her niece Madison Hilts. Lori is survived by herparents, Melvin and Frances Poad; brother, Mark Poad (wife Patty); sisters Kim Connors (husband Bill), Melissa Hilts (husband Mike), Jennifer Holm (husband Sean); nieces: Alisha Connors, Haley Connors, MacKenzie Hilts, Emily Hilts, Amelia Poad, Ainsley Holm; nephews: Liam Connors, Connor Hilts, Cameron Poad, and many, manywonderful friends. Lori cherished spending time with her family with yearly gatherings at the Oregon Coast, Priest Lake, Idaho, and holidays in Spokane. Her life revolved around her close friends that she taught with at Shuksan Middle School. She had an easy going and quiet spirit that justenjoyed being around her friends. She enjoyed traveling and was always willing to head off somewhere - saying "no" was not in her makeup. She had a generous heart, yet was always reluctant to ask for help. She was committed to her students, making her classroom available before school and at breaks for students to gather. She always had wonderful stories about her Middle School kids. She was pleased when she felt she was making a positive difference in a kids life. Thank you Lord for granting our family the privilege of loving andcaring for her. Lori will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts and memories. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice or the Salvation Army. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westford Funeral Home in Bellingham on Monday January 22nd, 2007 at 4 PM followed by a reception across the street at Westford's Broadway Hall. A Vigil Service will be held at St. Thomas More in Spokane on Wednesday January 24th at 7 PM. Mass will be at St. Thomas More on Thursday January 25th at 10:30 AM, followed by burial at Holy CrossCemetery and a reception at the church.
